New Student Absence Policy

  • July 29, 2024July 29, 2024
  • by James Rosinia

New Student Absence Policy:

  • PTSC has three types of absences: Excused, Parent/Guardian Verified, and Unexcused
  • If a parent/guardian notifies the school on the day of the absence, a student can have up to 4 days per semester of parent/guardian verified absences.
  • Parents/guardians can use the parent/guardian verified absences allotted for necessary absences that can include illnesses that don’t require a visit to the doctor.
  • Excused absences are defined in the quick reference sheet and include an illness verified with a physician’s dated statement.
  • These policies were developed based on state law, as illustrated in PTSC policy, and in collaboration with Porter County Juvenile Services and Judge DeBoer as they join Indiana lawmakers in working to set attendance expectations for all Indiana students of missing 10 or fewer school days per year.
