November 19, 2020
Dear Porter Township Families,
School officials were notified late yesterday and today that 7 of our students or staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. The administration, in consultation with the Porter County Health Department, has conducted contact tracing measures. All individuals identified as close contacts to the positive cases have been notified directly and have been advised to follow Indiana State Department of Health isolation and quarantine guidelines. If you did not receive such a notice, it is because your child was not deemed a close contact. Please understand we are limited in the amount of detail we can share under applicable privacy laws.
Currently among our 1,509 PK-12 students (1,110 in person) and 227 staff members with the announcements today we have 16 active positive cases across all buildings resulting in 98 total individuals being quarantined due to exposure to those 16 active cases. Please realize that these numbers are fluid as staff and students return when recovered from COVID and at the end of the quarantine/isolation period.
We have had notification of many COVID positive individuals today (and this week) impacting our high school. We are now to the point where approximately a quarter of our high school in-person population is quarantined.
For this reason, we are shifting Boone Grove High School to virtual for two weeks beginning Monday, November 23. Students will return to the school building on Monday, December 7.
We have made the decision to suspend our Boys and Girls Basketball programs along with our Wrestling program. Parents of athletes in these sports have been notified and provided information on restart dates.
Boone Grove High School Parents: Mr. Corman and Mr. Rosinia will be communicating with you about this temporary transition to virtual. Students will be expected to be in attendance virtually for each of their class periods and teachers will be providing instruction through Zoom and Schoology. Watch for more information to come. We want our buildings to be open for in-person instruction. What you do outside of school, and while we shift to virtual at BGHS, matters. Please do not have others over to your house or go to another person’s house.
We want school to be able to safely reopen, and we need to slow the transmission rates in our community. None of us like this, but we need to now buckle down to protect the vulnerable in our society, protect our staff and students, and protect our health care workers. Again, thank you for your continued support and for working to keep our school community healthy!
ASVAB testing will be September 16th at 8:00am in the BGHS main gym for specific juniors and seniors. Students will be notified on Schoology this week.
The PSAT is scheduled for Thursday, October 29th for all sophomores and juniors at 7:30am in the BGHS main gym.
Please be sure you are at school on time for testing.

We have made some alterations to the schedule for this year to allow for instructional support and enrichment of all students. We have a built in time each morning from 7:30am – 8:05am to allow 1st period students to come to class for focused instruction. Any student who maintains grades above a C- is not required to attend the instructional support period, but may attend to help enhance existing understanding.
Information is now posted on the district’s webpage to accept new transfer student applications for the 2020-2021 school year until Friday, August 7, 2020. Please direct all inquiries to central office.
Boone Grove High School Freshman & New Student Orientation is Monday, August 3rd from 9am – 12pm and 3pm – 6pm. Students will pick up iPads, pick up masks, and have time to view the school. There are no specific activities scheduled. It is just come and go as you please.
Students will not be assigned to lockers unless requested but will be allowed to carry a backpack. Please remember you will need the signed responsible use form (linked below) and an iPad case (last year’s middle school case will work) to pick up your iPad. Schedules will need to be accessed via Harmony ahead of time. Please enter door J on the south side of the building. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know. We look forward to seeing everyone! Take care!
– Do NOT attend if not feeling well
– Masks will be mandatory for everyone attending
– Practice social distancing
Registration will be open July 13-17 and is completely online this year. While it is early, it is essential that we get this information and are able to allocate resources adequately.

- Make sure the demographic info is correct so you can get important school info
- You can pay online using a credit card, there is a processing fee (you can also bring a check once school starts)
- Students must have a responsible use form signed and turned in on the first day in order for their ipads to work. The form can be found at https://www.ptsc.k12.in.us/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Student-Internet-and-Technology-Responsible-Use-Agreement-Form-2020.pdf

Also realize you will need to contact the guidance office via phone call or email in order to arrange schedule changes. Counselors will return two weeks prior to the start of school to handle these changes. Schedule change requests will be handled in the order received and completed based on the merit of the requests. We hope that this process proves to be efficient for everyone involved. Please take care of this before the first day of school.
In order for students to have a full functioning ipad, students will need to turn in their printed and signed responsible use forms on the first day of school to their first hour teacher. If you have an adequate charger, you do not need to burden yourself with the potential cost of a school charger.
Freshmen and new students are able to pick up ipads during the new student orientation on August 3 from 9am-12pm and 3pm-6pm. You will need the signed responsible use form and a case (last year’s middle school cases work!). The ipad case we will be using this year is generation 5/6.
Please contact the school (219-476-3455) or email me at email@example.com
